I'm sharing it as well, not so much on here - but I see a lot of Artists stressing out on their skills on various sites, all the time - way too often! So I find this guy sums up the fact there is no need to stress, and anyone who follows Bobby Chiu will know he says the same thing. One of my main motivations is my own improvement, exploration and growth, not how well I'm doing compared to my peers; as some are shooting way past me, but so what! That's their path not mine. Anyway this guy writes it very nicely :)

College LifeI don't really talk too much about my daily life on dA since I didn't want to spam everyone with constant horror stories of my time in the kitchen (which is why I do that on fb https://www.facebook.com/FisheyePlacebo/photos_stream instead) but today, I would like to share some of the extra "special" moments during my college life (even though I graduated already).
When upstairs neighbors are being very loud, the most effective method is to leave an angry coconut at their door ;)
When life gives you pears, cut them into ducks and bake them into pizza~
When the Occupy movement swept through campus, make sure the fridge participates.
When assigned to go to a museum for Art History, take detailed notes of the kinky nipple biting eagles.
When roommate cooks something that cannot be described with words...

Commission prices are determined by the difficulty of the style/ detail/ and amount of time it will take to complete.
I work on a first come first serve basis. I will not reserve any slots. I also have the right to decline any commission I don't feel comfortable with. I will also try and do your commission in a timely fashion, though if circumstances arise it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 3-4 months.

Self Censorship and Feeling Judged.Im sharing this around because its something I feel extremely strong about. I wont sit idly by and let good artists be strongarmed into feeling jugded, second guessing and self censoring (removing from portfolio) their own work.
If you feel that way, my message to you is this:
Fellow artists,
I received some really troubling PM's today. Please don't feel you need to self-censor your work if you enjoy making pinups / sexy girls. Don't remove it from your folios, and never, ever, second guess what you enjoy spending your free time making. Especially don't feel judged because you appear to not be a champion of a cause of any kind. Regardless of how prominant of an artist you are, or where you work in our industry, your free time, is YOURS. Feel free to express who you are, NOT who other people think you should be.

I've lost count of how many times someone, be it a big corporation or an individual, have asked me to illustrate for them for free. It will always go something like this "You draw this for us, and we will include your name in the credits. That's good publicity for you!" as if such a pathetic offer holds any merit.
There was one specific case where a guy wanted to use my drawing as a book cover but didn't want to pay. It has been an extremely stressful week for me to finally receive the shipment from the printers at Active Media Publishing http://www.activemediapublishing.com/ after such a long delay which cost us to miss Fanime, only to find out that the books were far below the expected quality.
Not only did the colors come out neon yellow and even green in some parts, there were large ink smudges on 50% of the books, while another 50% had uneven spines.
This is how the books came out. Neon yellow.
Note: colors may vary depending on your monitor screen so it may not look too bad on certain computers, but it looks bad in real life.
And then there are smudges that you can find on the right side of every other book. The scanner actually made the smudges less obvious, but again, it looks very bad in real life.

Since I believe the efforts of semi-realism artists are not sufficiently appreciated, because there are so many fantastic illustrations in this style that does not have the right visibility on here, I decided to create an article to advertise these artists that are, for me, the 'new faces' of this fashionable and yet so difficult art style.
First of all, Semi-realism is a drawing style derived from mangas but more complex in terms of style. Indeed, if we want to be more precise, it is the missing link between mangas and digital art. No giant eyes but neither skin blemishes.

Tapastic PPP for Comic Artists!

Hey guys! :D It was great meeting everyone in San Francisco last weekend!

In other news, there's a great new program for comic artists that I would like to share. It's part of  Tapastic's Primetime Publishing Program (PPP)  that pays comic artists based on the amount of page views they generate. If you are a comic artist, then you can make some extra money doing what you love. If you're not a comic artist, you can still check out all the cool webcomics on Tapastic.com and help support the artists that way :)

How Legit are they? I've heard this is the third version of the site, and the first two were taken down by artists who got taken advantage of. Also, in the fine print, there's a clause that says if we use them they own anything we publish through them in perpetuation. Even though they say we own all our stuff. So, I'm a little nervous about them, until I hear more ^_^;;
