Thank You!Thank you guys so much for the deviousness award! But it's really not just this award, thank you all for the support through out the years.
I can honestly say that I grew up with this community and everyone here has taught me so much, and not just about art, but also on how to be a person. When I first got this account at the age of 12, I could have never imagined how much it has shaped my life and career. It sounds cliche but I probably wouldn't have became an artist if it hadn't been for everyone here on deviantART. Through all of the ups and downs in life, the community has always been the support and inspiration that kept me going.
I hope to give back as much as everyone has given me. I will continue to create more comics, tutorials and art in the future. I will never stop, and I have you all to thank for that.
So truly, thank you!

But there will be stars this night.

See you at Anime Destiny!Hey guys!
This is will be the last con of the year for me, and what better way to end it than at the con held by my very own university I'll be at the annual Anime Destiny convention this November 16 at the Clark Kerr Conference Center at UC Berkeley, CA. As usual, I'll be in the Artist Alley with prints and books.
This year the Artist Alley will be in the Krutch Theatre due to construction of the usual location. Anime Destiny is a small con, but it's also one of my favorites because I get to see a lot of my old Berkeley friends there, and meet news ones as well. If you live in the bay area, come by and hang out!

Tapastic PPP for Comic Artists!Hey guys! It was great meeting everyone in San Francisco last weekend!
In other news, there's a great new program for comic artists that I would like to share. It's part of Tapastic's Primetime Publishing Program (PPP) that pays comic artists based on the amount of page views they generate. If you are a comic artist, then you can make some extra money doing what you love. If you're not a comic artist, you can still check out all the cool webcomics on Tapastic.com and help support the artists that way
College LifeI don't really talk too much about my daily life on dA since I didn't want to spam everyone with constant horror stories of my time in the kitchen (which is why I do that on fb https://www.facebook.com/FisheyePlacebo/photos_stream instead) but today, I would like to share some of the extra "special" moments during my college life (even though I graduated already).

Publishing Opportunity for New Artists!Hey guys! I want to spread the good news about my friend DeevElliott's two new anthologies that will be strictly reserved for up coming artists here on DeviantART! If you're a new and aspiring comic artist looking for a chance to be published with a seasoned professional, this is it!
I've met Dave many times and he is always looking to help younger artists in need of a kick start! His current projects are detailed in this journal http://techgnotic.deviantart.com/journal/Dave-Elliott-An-Authentic-Citizen-384734344 along with lots of great advice on how to get into the publishing industry. His two anthologies and how to participate in his project is also linked in there.
Fisheye Placebo Cosplay DerpsI had the honor of derping with these hilarious Fisheye Placebo cosplayers at Sakura-con!
Good times. Good times.
See you guys again at Fanime! ♥
Frey, Alex, and Vance cosplayed by Shotalicious, Sugarlat, Liarino. I'm cameoing as rabbit ear fingers.
And then I drew them XD
Jen and Cocoa by Haruu-chan and LeekFish
ART MAJORS FTW
Robin and Toby copsplayed by usagi2ranpha and Little-islander
Alex has a plastic gun. Toby is going ARAFDHAJGJ. Robin is confused. Noting makes sense and all is right with the world.
The level of maturity is overwhelming.
They wanted to cosplay outerwear and underwear so they even made Vance and Frey's panties. Not only that, they also made extra ones for me to wear XD
Last but not least, amazing cosplay and photography by KashinoRei and Andy-K. They are in Germany so I wasn't able to meet them at Sakura-con, but hopefully I'll be able to visit a European con in the future
COSPLAY!Hey guys! Since the semester started, the professors are starting out with a BANG! I'm doing my best not to procrastinate as much this time orz. Thankfully, I am pretty on top of things and I'm hoping to keep it that way as much as possible because when the end of the semester hits, I'm all downhill from there!
On other news, haha the reason I wrote this journal was because there were people who asked if they could cosplay by website characters and I really thank you for asking first! You don't have to ask for my permission You can just go for it!!! And have fun! I provided most of the references in my SCRAP gallery, so you can go off from those and make your own changes in them if you'd like! Of course, it would be great if I can get a chance to see photos and stuff if you guys are done ;v; I truly thank you guys for the ongoing support!
And if you have any messages, please inbox me on my yahoo account:
So, no permission needed for fanart, fanficti
New Username Symbols: Extended ThoughtsTwo weeks ago, we released two new products – deviant and art Mentions and new username symbols. Gratefully, and as we'd hoped, many deviants are embracing these changes in exactly the ways we'd anticipated, and the ways we ourselves did over the past several months of testing. While some deviants embraced the changes, it's fair to say that others have felt surprise, curiosity, and maybe even shock. These feelings are totally normal, but for the large part, there's a hope present. A positive outlook. The first steps in a new era that makes the way for our goals in the future, and, at the same time, removes clutter and confusion that new deviants often experience.
As with any change, there are a handful of deviants that don't understand why we made the choices we did
Ramblings about 'internet fame'A lot of stuff has happened lately in life lately, and is has made me think about things, and about my perspective on it. One of those things, is the internet.
As some of you know, I'm a huge nerd. While as kid, I didn't had a computer at home, and I hated those damn machines because I wasn't able to work with them at all (so much fail T__T), I soon caught up when I got my first computer at age 14. And while most of my family expected me to end up as a hopeless internet addict, I soon started to learn myself how to program. The rest is history. With my 26th birthday, I also celebrated being a webprogrammer for 10 years already. Oh yeah, I'm getting old for sure.
The recent chain of events have caused me to think about the internet and it's role in life, however. When I first started out with art, I was only a little girl. Me, and both of my younger sisters, were all very creative. And we spend almost all of our time drawing at the kitchen table, while discussing about the characters we
Animals (photogallery)Animals were always important for me- especially having physical contact with them. Not because of art. No one told me or persuaded to like them. It was even before I started drawing them and creating imaginary creatures. I'll say, I don't really remember the moment when I started liking animals- I feel like I liked them before I gained my own consciousness. Which is strange, none of my parents had special liking to them, nor we had any animals. My passionate love to animals was written in the stars that no one can erase or manipulate with my feelings toward our little brothers...
I'm waking up early at morning.
Usually I'm a longsleeper, that I have demanding need to sleep for long hours but this morning, very early a pack of kittens were jumping on me. I've realized that besides canines outside and cats inside we have another residents... flies. I hate flies. But cats love them. I don't know what's up with them but at early morning they lov
Mesti Datang! The HobbyCon 2013 Experience!Earlier this year, my friends and I were invited to be overseas guests for HobbyCon in Sabah, Malaysia.
Time flew by very fast, and before we knew it...
Our first day was spent doing a lot of eating, thanks to our guide Alyssa I will justify it as us fueling up for an action-packed weekend! We tried nasi lemak for the first time (LOVED IT), had some shaved ice desserts after, then a big dinner of clay pot rice, stir-fry noodles with clams, really tasty chicken wings, etc. and THEN we still raided Pick N' Pay for our midnight snacks because we love convenience stores and we wanted to try things we don't have in Manila.
We planned our cosplays ahead with Team Kachang Puteh, the guests from Singapore. Our theme for the first day of HobbyCon was Shingeki no Kyojin!

New Username Symbols: The JourneyA New Road to Travel
When I was first approached with the project to redesign and replace our user symbols I was naturally quite shocked. For those of us who've been part of deviantART for a long while, changing the username symbols seemed like changing the colour of the sky, or asking everyone to suddenly start walking backwards, right? It seemed like such a fundamental part of what deviantART is that it was hard to take on board. But then really, when you think about it, the old symbols were meaningless at face value. And that, my dear friends, is exactly why we set about looking at rethinking them.
Think about when you first found and joined deviantART. Did any of the symbols make sense? Did you stop and think "what is this ~ before my name and why is it there?" Maybe, but possibly you're probably like me and just kinda accepted it because that's the reality presented to you. After a while, though, you'd have seen the * and maybe even a ` or ^ an
Fan Art Contest WINNER!!!!let me start by saying thank you to all of you for the amazing amount of support and enthusiasm for my otto and victoria fan art contest. there were over 200 entries ranging from line art to sculpture, photography to balloon art! i am honored, inspired and incredibly moved by the body of work. my job to pick just one winner was incredibly difficult. i thought long and hard about each piece and i am thrilled to announce the winner here:
congratulations to http://komorinight.deviantart.com/ on being the grand prize winner of the contest. they will be receiving a signed limited edition copy of my book including a hand drawn sketch! I chose this piece because of it's charm and story. it captures otto and victoria's friendship and i love the illustrative quality of the artist's unique style. the warm tone and rich color palette set the stage for a very heart warming scene.
now because there was soooooo much great art i have decided to showcas
How I cosplayed the cast of Free! sort-of-tutorialGroup cosplay, forever alone style! Yeah, that's all me.
In this post, I'll get into how I did each one!
Intro, and some bad old pictures
For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al

Working in SAI
- Alt+spacebar+dragging the cursor will rotate your canvas.
- Hold the spacebar and drag your cursor to move around the canvas
- Hold Ctrl+Alt, and you can change your brush size without having to go back to the brush panel
- If you go to View > New (It's on the top menu) and you can have another instance of your file open (Example)
- If you click a layer thumbnail and hold Shift, and it will select everything on that layer.
- Layer clipping! Color in all your bases, and then keep all the messy shading on a separate layer and click the "clipping group" option, and it will all neatly erase it self outside the lines
- Press H to flip your image. This makes it easier to weed out mistakes.
- It makes your life a lot easier if you organize your layers into folders!!!
For actual painting tips
- Try to keep shading subtle! Don't go
Fisheye Placebo ImagesI saw this awesome Fisheye Placebo music video by Linda Neumann and realized that it would probably be easier for music video editors and language translators to have a textless version of all of the panels so here it is https://www.dropbox.com/sh/84jcondrsylfh82/pVEbp8d1Qq
Feel free to download the images for any class projects, music videos, translations, etc. Please credit and remember that I drew these for everyone to read for free, so do not try to sell or profit from my work in anyway. If I find people charging others for translated versions of this story, or selling copies of my work, I will be very angry ):
That aside, check out the cool video! She did a wonderful job editing everything
Keep in Touch!
Lilyas has dedicated herself to making our community a brighter place with her vibrant artwork and infectious enthusiasm for interacting with others in our community. It has certainly paid off, as many deviants flock to her page on a daily basis to let her know how much of an inspiration she is. We absolutely agree, and couldn't let all that hard work go without recognition, so it's with great pride that we bestow the Deviousness Award for March 2014, to ... Read More
