College LifeI don't really talk too much about my daily life on dA since I didn't want to spam everyone with constant horror stories of my time in the kitchen (which is why I do that on fb https://www.facebook.com/FisheyePlacebo/photos_stream instead) but today, I would like to share some of the extra "special" moments during my college life (even though I graduated already).
When upstairs neighbors are being very loud, the most effective method is to leave an angry coconut at their door
When life gives you pears, cut them into ducks and bake them into pizza~
When the Occupy movement swept through campus, make sure the fridge participates.
When assigned to go to a museum for Art History, take detailed notes of the kinky nipple biting eagles.
When roommate cooks something that cannot be described with words...
When the new apartment sink rage quits...
When I got the bright idea to create an aquaponics system in my bedroom... which later flooded the carpet... (Trust me, I'm an
The Roommate Adventures of ~THE SUNKEN SINK~While I was too busy stressing over the issues with the 1000 Words book and trying to fix the problems, I failed to mention some other, sillier, problems we've had since moving to a new apartment.
It went something like this:
Roommate: Wenqing!!! The sink fell!!!
Me: ...What?! (in my mind: Silly roommy got her English all confused. She must have meant something fell into the sink)
After going to the bathroom
Me: Holy crap! The sink fell!!!
The sinking sink, the sunken sink, the sink sank? Thinking of sinking sinks lol
And then the other roommate came home and was (in her own words) " ┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ﾉ︵ ┻━┻ "
But as the first roommate put it: "The good thing about not having a bathroom sink is that you can just reach through the counter where the sink should be to grab whatever is underneath."
Living on the bright side like a boss~

Info Updates & Mustache CupcakesHey guys! It's been a while and I haven't been too active on dA this past month but here's the journal to keep you all updated:
I've been busy speeding up the schedule so I can release my next webcomic, Fisheye Placebo as soon as possible. The current release date is set to early 2013.
That means Knite had to slow down a bit since it's difficult to work on 2 projects at once. However, I still aim to update Knite ch5 beta strips around once a week. You may have noticed that in the past, I posted Knite in full chapter flash format, but I really enjoyed posting beta pages on my :iconknites: account since this allowed more audience interaction. The problem was switching between accounts was too much pain, and updating several pages a day flooded people's accounts. In the end, I decided to post strips on this account instead. The strips will only be posted once a week so if you don't want to be spoiled, just ignore the strips

Respect YourselfMy friend shared this video to warn other artists about how she was taken advantage of, and I believe this is a very important message that every artist should hear.
I've lost count of how many times someone, be it a big corporation or an individual, have asked me to illustrate for them for free. It will always go something like this "You draw this for us, and we will include your name in the credits. That's good publicity for you!" as if such a pathetic offer holds any merit.
There was one specific case where a guy wanted to use my drawing as a book cover but didn't want to pay. He said he might print up to 50,000 books, so that's like an amazing offer of 50,000 views for me right? Wrong. 50,000 is nothing. We live in the information revolution. Don't forget we have places like Deviantart, tumblr, and all those social networking sites. Sharing art, like sharing any information, has never been easier. You don't have to degrade yourself for some disrespectful publisher to get you art se
Anime, Art, ActivismSorry for the flood of journals!
First, thank you all for the support about the Comic Con panels, and thank you, dA, for giving me the opportunity to do so!
Speaking of panels, I will be giving another one about how anime and art can be more than just pretty pictures, but also a powerful mechanism of change. I will talk about how I first started doing activist art, finding inspiration, and how that evolved into my life's career. I will also be talking about how you can easily take action with nothing but the will of your imagination.
The panel will be held at Cal Anime Destiny http://www.calanimedestiny.com a small one day (and super cheap) anime convention held at my university When I'm not panelling, you can find me in the Artist Alley (the AA is small, so I'll be easy to find ). The con is this October 13th at MLK Student Union on the University of California Berkeley campus 10 AM7 PM (more info here http://www.calanimedestiny.com/location )
I look forward to s

In other news, I'm honored to be part of deviantART's How-to Panel: Creator + Audience this Saturday 7/20 at 12:15 in Room 2 at the San Diego Comic Con! http://comic-con.deviantart.com/ If you're already going, be sure to drop by our panel!
This is Madness! (and Sparta)Hello Eveyone!
Life has been pretty crazy lately. I just moved to a new apartment and we won't get our internet until a week later so I just want announce a few things while I still have the chance (using my friend's wifi atm).
1. Fanime was amazing! Thank you all who dropped by my table, and sorry that I lost my voice on the 4th day too much talking lol... It was great making new friends, hanging out with old friends, and just seeing other deviants in real life! I'm sorry a lot of the prints sold out on the first day, but I will try to open online sales for certain prints once I get my internet back. And I will definitely print more for future conventions
My deepest apologies for not having 1000 Words for Fanime. The printers at Active Media Publishing http://www.activemediapublishing.com/ promised over and over that they would have it ready, but they didn't, and when we called them about it, they hung up on us. As a matter of fact, we still don't have the book
Is anything working right now? :IThere seems to be a glitch that won't let a majority of my watchers get notified of my updates. I noticed this after posting and realizing there is significantly reduced traffic. I logged into my other account :iconknites: and sure enough, the newest update did not appear in the other account's inbox. Some people have reported receiving the update, while many others reported not receiving it. I decided to make sure and made a poll asking people if they received the lasted drawing in their inbox, and guess what? There's another glitch affecting the polls so most people aren't getting notified of the poll either... =_= Or at least the newest poll is not showing up in my other account either. I wonder if people will even see this journal?
I already reported the bug, but if people can see this journal, I'm curious if anyone is experiencing similar problems? I remember years back there was a bug that only affected people with a certain amount of watchers which means some ar
Need for ToleranceFrom Reddit:
(This is pretty obvious so I didn't think I need to point it out but it seems that some people need to hear it: No, I don't think all religious people are like this. Yes, I do know these are extreme cases. But the point is that these are all recent events and we shouldn't live in a world where this kind of intolerance still exists. I've lost count the number of times that I've been harassed by Christians so the next time you see someone picking on gay people, saying atheists should be killed, don't be a bystander and just let it happen. Speak up. Stop a crime before it happens.)
okay, my wife has some crazy fans XDi dont usually like doing cross promotion. we both just kinda do our own things but damn it all if this is not the most awesome thing i ever saw XDXDXDXDXD
its a strange dubbed version of one of her strips..and...and.. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD THERE IS EVEN AN EMAILING SOUND... and music .. and timed text appearing with actual voiceover doing some pretty cool acting at the same time... and...
Objectification of MenAfter reading through the comments on my last journal about Tropes Vs Women in Gaming Part 2 I noticed a lot of people are angry we're even talking about sexism because (as they put it) "men are ALSO sexualized and objectified in gaming so women shouldn't complain that they are too."
And while that's a nice thought that sounds logical at first... any causal observer to gaming and most media today will be able to recognize that the two sides are not equal enough to make that sort of comparison. Here's the difference as I see it: Men are objectified and sexualized, yes, but it's not done for women. It's done for men. The objectification of men in gaming and other media is a self image fantasy FOR men. In other words, both the objectification of men and women are done for the benefit of men.
Not only that but again a casual observer will note that the standards of "beauty" are not at all equal on both sides. Female heros are all designed to be attractive, sexy, thin, sensual, pure,

you wanna get good....then don't be a hater!okay so here is a tip
i have seen in my life many artists who proclaimed they want to develop their skills, and kept bashing on everyone and everything on the way....and for some reason those guys never got anywhere...
here is why..
there is a value to different approaches, different styles. realism, manga , cartooney disney, my little pony, furries....don't waste your time tryint to bash any of the stuff you don't personally like
you are missing out, bigtime!
see there is a reason why that stuff is popular. and by that i mean on the visual side. so instead of flaming , trolling and bashing, try understanding the inner workings of it.
here are some specific examples
realism- it is a wonderfully complex base , reflects one's skill in capturing reality, but in it there are differences between photo referenced, real life work and no reference. ALL HAVE THEIR VALUE AND IMPORTANCE! from photos you can learn alot, gain analytic skills, develop an attention to

A Very Important UpdateI haven't posted here on DA in a while, so this might be new to a lot of you, but if you've been following some of the stuff happening over on tumblr it won't be unexpected. For the past several weeks I've been getting steadily worse both mentally and physically. I've been depressed before, but I've never been as bad as I've been recently. I've lashed out at people, been getting angrier and grumpier, been finding it harder and harder to listen to people giving me positive feedback, and have even started rapidly losing a lot of weight.
My enjoyment for drawing has been dropping, and many of you have probably noticed that I've been taking more and more time off lately. For every few comics I post, I tend to spend another week recuperating. But within the past 2 weeks it's spiked so bad that I seriously have to consider what's more important: my health or drawing.
So for the time being I am shutting down. I'll still be working on brentalfloss and updating those here, and the most current
Small UpdateI've been gone from the internet for almost 2 1/2 months now, and chances are I won't be coming back for quite a while longer. Nevertheless I just wanted to give a quick update and thank all my fans who have been so supportive of me these past few weeks/months.
I've been amazed at the number of genuine well wishes that I've received. I think the vast majority of my fans genuinely do enjoy my doodles and cartoons and that the well organized and extremely vocal "haters" of me and my work make up a very very VERY small percentage of my watchers. There have been some absolutely wonderful comments and messages being sent my way, and several of you have even sent me links to advice sites or inspirational posts. I truly do appreciate it. Thank you so very much.
I don't say Thank You enough, I think. Because of my fans I've been able to do some amazing things and I owe you guys a lot. Because of you'all, I've been able to visit another country and make friends from all over the world, somethin

Regarding larger posters:
I'm only selling letter-sized and smaller things at the moment because shipping from Canada costs an arm and a leg. BUT, I'll be in U.S. during December, so I can ship 11x17" posters from there.
Drop me a quick comment if interested so I know if I should take pre-orders or not, otherwise I can't print them in time. (you can see the available designs in the photo of my table in my previous Akicon journal :b )
I asked my awesome friend who works for [undisclosed-so-nobody-gets-into-trouble] printer company to print me a continuous print of using a long-format printer.
So this wonderful thing is now hanging in the perfectly-sized space over my window 8)!

Late Lesson LearnedWhile doing research for the new SYAC, I actually stumbled upon something truthful on TVtropes.org. Usually I take everything from that site with a grain of salt, but this one bit actually was surprisingly honest and truthful about webcomics:
Webcomics work on a very different set of standards than other fiction. Almost all webcomic authors are working pretty much entirely alone as they both draw and script their comics and most do not plan any further along than to the end of their current story sometimes not even that far.
Many of them try to adhere to a schedule they aren't really capable of meeting, resulting in them rushing to meet their deadline and making mistakes that should be avoidable. So many of the good 10% lack qualities standard in traditionally professional works. This can be because of the lack of editorial input as well as the lack of lead time. Not all webcomics suffer from this, though, and even the ones that do can still be interesting. Arguably, some str

Lilyas has dedicated herself to making our community a brighter place with her vibrant artwork and infectious enthusiasm for interacting with others in our community. It has certainly paid off, as many deviants flock to her page on a daily basis to let her know how much of an inspiration she is. We absolutely agree, and couldn't let all that hard work go without recognition, so it's with great pride that we bestow the Deviousness Award for March 2014, to ... Read More
