Manga!Kaworu cracked me up XD he was so weird and always unintentionally molesting Shinji. Shinji's general reaction was usually "OMG! WTF? He's a fag!" So I thought that maybe if Kaworu was a girl like Tabris XX, then Shinji wouldn't mind XD and how do one turn a guy into a girl? SEXY NO JUTSU!! of course.
